Even people who seem to be very sure of themselves will admit to having low self-esteem that often makes them unhappy, or keeps them from doing some of the things they want to do, being the kind of person they want to be. I feel that I have always been working on raising my self-esteem and that I will always need to do that. In a nutshell, no covered entity shall discriminate against a qualified individual with a disability because of the individual's disability with regard to all aspects of employment (job application procedures, hiring and firing, advancement, training, compensation, benefits, etc.).

A covered employer must make a reasonable accommodation to the known physical or mental limitation of a qualified individual with a disability unless the employer can show that the reasonable accommodation would cause an undue hardship on the operation of its business.

However, students with mental illness may experience symptoms that interfere with their educational goals and that create a "psychiatric disability." These symptoms may include, yet are not limited to: A student with a mental illness may have one or more of the following psychiatric diagnoses (American Psychiatric Association, 1994). Bipolar affective disorder (BAD, previously called manic depressive disorder).

BAD is a mood disorder with revolving periods of mania and depression.
